The World in my Hands
I need my soma*. I need my dopamine. I want to escape reality. I hope my phone doesn’t run out of batteries: it’s the only thing that gives my life meaning.
I have the world, in my hands. I have everything on demand
What’s the point of doing something if you’re not sharing? Life is a show for the world to see. I have to be as cool as everyone in my feed. Their lives are so exciting and mine is empty.
I have the world in my hands. I have everything on demand.
* Soma is a type of recreational drug used in the dystopian novel "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. It's used to cure any sort of unhappiness within the fictional society. I'm comparing smartphones and social media to soma in this piece(originally written as lyrics for a song). I don't view these inventions as entirely negative. Social media and smartphones can definitely be used for good, but they do have an addictive nature to them as well which is more what I'm commenting on.
